In last week’s edition of Little Things, I wrote about the wonderful world of the website Pinterest.
This week I’m also going to share one of my favorite internet gems, Pandora.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the site, here’s how the creators of Pandora describe it:
Personalized internet radio that is designed to help you discover new music you’ll love mixed in with music you already know.
Pandora is powered by the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken, the Music Genome Project: a crazy project started over ten years ago to capture the complex musical DNA of songs using a large team of highly-trained musicians.
In a nutshell, it’s a musical lifesaver for those of us who do the majority of our work in front of the computer.
The site is free for 40 hours of listening a month, but if you think you’ll be listening more than that, there’s the option to upgrade to unlimited listening time.
Because I listen to wayyyyy more than 40 hours of music a month (there’s a Pandora app too, so I can listen on my phone when I’m in the car) I decided to upgrade to Pandora One, which is the unlimited version of the site.
At only $36 for the year, it’s super cheap, and definitely worth it if you spend a lot of time on the computer like me.
I love having internet radio because I don’t have to bother with downloading songs individually from iTunes, and I get to create as many radio stations as I want. There’s one for every kind of music I’m in the mood for, and if I change my mind, so can the radio station.
It’s really neat and I’ve been listening for a few years now.
If you’ve never used Pandora, go ahead and visit the site now and try it out for yourself!
If you have more questions, you can find their Frequently Asked Questions page here.
Happy listening 🙂
P.S. I’m definitely not paid to endorse Pandora, in case you were wondering. It’s just made my life a lot easier, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to share!
XOXO,
B
Once you create an account, this is what the screen looks like when loading the page.
While each song plays, the site will provide you with more information on the artist that you’re currently listening to.
You can find out more about their history, read the lyrics of the song, or even link to a place to buy the album if you feel like it!
Aside from unlimited listening time, another benefit of upgrading to Pandora One is the desktop application.
It allows you to listen to Pandora without having the website open and gives you all of the vital listening features in one place.
This is what the app looks like on my desktop, along with my background which happens to be Matthew holding our dear friend’s newborn son Preston.
Preston recently turned one, and is much bigger now. Obviously I change my background frequently 🙂
