Hi there and welcome to another installment of Little Things!
Actually this week’s little thing isn’t really that little at all.
I chose giving back to the community as this week’s thing that makes me happy.
Last summer I had the pleasure of being a volunteer photographer for Flashes of Hope at Camp Sunshine.
Flashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization that strives to use photography as a tool to change the way children with serious illnesses see themselves. Camp Sunshine is a camp here in Georgia for children living with cancer.
It was a wonderful and moving experience hanging out with the kids at camp for the day and I really hope I get to do it again this year.
Several months after taking the pictures I got a lovely framed thank you card in the mail featuring one of my pictures. It’s been on my desk ever since and always makes me smile!
The response that I got after blogging the Camp Sunshine pictures was awesome.
It was wonderful to hear from the campers and their parents about how great the experience was for them and how thankful they were to have their picture taken.
The framed card from Flashes of Hope was just icing on the cake. It was a great tangible reminder of that day and the effort they put into saying thank you was really heartwarming.
I think that oftentimes we forget to say thank you because we’re so rushed, or because we assume that people know that we’re thankful for what they’ve done.
Just like giving one day of my time meant a lot to those kids, the time that they took to tell me thank you meant so much to me.
Next time someone does something nice for you, say thank you and mean it. Give them a hug. Even better, send them a sweet note in the mail!
Thank YOU for reading my blog!
P.S. I sent Flashes of Hope a thank you card for my thank you gift. I’m sure that makes my mom proud 🙂
XOXO,
B
